"25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Psalm 73:25-26

English Standard Version (ESV)

When Things get tough who do you cling to?

Often times we go on autopilot. Cause and effect. Something happens and we respond. Perspective is too painful. Searching our hearts is too scary. And or we are caught in a river, that keeps rushing over us and never slows for you to catch your breath. You have no time to reflect. To adjust. To react. And to heal.  These are the times we flip on the autopilot.

But it is vitally important to process our response, otherwise, the area we were hurt will bleed silent bitterness, anger, numbness, helplessness and so on in your heart. We need to feel. We need to process.

In this you will be stripped down. You will be able to see where your heart truly lies.  And hopefully it lies with Jesus. Hopefully you are clinging to the Cross. Because when Jesus died to save sinners, He extends perfect grace and redeems us. This gift of grace gives us peace with God. Clinging to people and or routines will not give you this peace. People fail, routines are not forever stable. And so we must trust God. We must cling to Him to trust others. God is for us and not against us. And this truth is what we must rely on.

“1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

Romans 5:1-5
